Tucked away from the lively streets of Old Nice, on Castle Hill, Hôtel du Couvent breathes new life into a 17th- and 18th-century convent that has become one of the French Riviera’s most distinctive addresses. Behind its centuries-old stone walls, terraced gardens, a peaceful cloister, vegetable gardens, and fruit orchards create a true sanctuary, just a short stroll from the Mediterranean.
Following more than ten years of meticulous restoration, this remarkable property reopened in 2024 under the vision of Valéry Grégo. Now part of Marriott Bonvoy’s Luxury Collection, the hotel combines its distinctly local character with the familiarity of an internationally recognized hospitality collection. Every effort was made to preserve the spirit of the monastery while reimagining it for contemporary hospitality. Rather than embracing the Riviera’s more glamorous traditions, Hôtel du Couvent offers a quiet sense of refinement, where history, craftsmanship, wellness, and Mediterranean living
come together naturally. Former nuns’ cells now sit alongside flourishing gardens, Roman-inspired thermal baths, an herbal apothecary, and welcoming gathering spaces enjoyed by both locals and visitors.

Hôtel du Couvent features 88 rooms and suites, ranging from 23 to 166 square meters (248 to 1,787 sq. ft.). Spread throughout the convent’s historic buildings, each accommodation has been carefully restored with deep respect for the original architecture, preserving terracotta floors, limewashed walls, vaulted ceilings, and the graceful proportions of the period. Custom-designed furnishings blend effortlessly with antiques, sculptures, and carefully selected works of art, creating a simple, timeless aesthetic inspired by the building’s monastic heritage.
In keeping with the hotel’s philosophy of slowing down and disconnecting, guest rooms intentionally do not include televisions, inviting you to embrace the calm and simply enjoy your surroundings.
Each room category has its own distinctive character, with views overlooking the cloister, the gardens, the rooftops of Old Nice, or the Mediterranean Sea. The largest suites feature spacious living rooms, fully equipped kitchens, and private terraces, offering the feeling of staying in an elegant Niçois residence.
The peaceful atmosphere extends throughout the property, from the historic cloister and Mediterranean gardens to the Thermes du Couvent. Located within the monastery’s former cellars, this nearly 700-square-meter wellness sanctuary draws inspiration from ancient Roman baths and has become one of the hotel’s defining features, perfectly expressing the unique character of this exceptional retreat.
